Experience one of the biggest kayak fishing tournaments in South Carolina when the nation’s top kayak anglers compete on Lake Murray during the 2026 Newport Bassmaster Kayak Championship presented by Native Watercraft. Taking place October 15–17, 2026, the championship brings qualified anglers from across the country to Columbia, South Carolina, for three days of competitive bass fishing.
The 2026 championship marks a major milestone for the Bassmaster Kayak Series as its first-ever stand-alone championship. Anglers will compete for a national title on Lake Murray, a 50,000-acre reservoir recognized as one of the premier bass fishing destinations in South Carolina. Known for its healthy populations of largemouth and spotted bass, Lake Murray offers diverse fishing opportunities with offshore structure, docks, timber and shallow cover.
For visitors and fishing enthusiasts, the Bassmaster Kayak Championship in Columbia SC offers an opportunity to experience professional-level kayak fishing and see some of the country’s top anglers compete on one of the Southeast’s most popular fishing lakes. The October event will also provide opportunities for fans to follow the competition through on-site activities and Bassmaster’s digital and media coverage.
The championship is expected to welcome approximately 150 anglers to Lake Murray Country, creating opportunities to explore local restaurants, attractions, outdoor recreation and accommodations throughout the Columbia, Lexington, Newberry and Saluda areas.
