SC State Museum Presents "Artist Homecoming 2026"

Artist Homecoming 2026: Elements of Craft brings together South Carolina artists, cultural leaders, arts administrators, curators, and supporters for two days of creative connection and celebration.

The event begins Thursday, October 8, with a free opening reception for In the Making: Contemporary Craft from South Carolina. Presented as part of Handwork 2026: Celebrating American Craft, the juried exhibition features work by 12 South Carolina-based artists working across fiber, ceramics, wood, metal, glass, mixed media, and other fine craft traditions. The reception offers an early look at the exhibition while highlighting the innovation and diversity of contemporary craft throughout the state.

Friday, October 9, features a full day of conversations, activities, and opportunities to connect with South Carolina’s creative community. Programming includes panel discussions on the state of the arts, the tradition and future of sweetgrass basketmaking, and Handwork 2026 South Carolina curators. Artist-led walkthroughs of In the Making: Contemporary Craft from South Carolina, interactive activities, and yearbook-inspired photos add to the experience.

The Thursday reception is free, with RSVP encouraged. Friday activities are $10 per person and free for students and Museum members.
