Explore one of Columbia’s most significant historic sites during Free Sundays at the Museum of the Reconstruction Era. Held on the third Sunday of each month, this special program offers free admission for residents of Richland and Lexington counties, courtesy of Richland County.
Located within the Woodrow Wilson Family Home, the Museum of the Reconstruction Era is the nation’s only museum dedicated exclusively to the post-Civil War Reconstruction period and is housed in South Carolina’s only remaining presidential site. Through engaging exhibits and historical interpretation, the museum examines Columbia’s late 19th-century history while addressing common misconceptions about Reconstruction and its lasting impact on American society.
Self-guided tours are available from 1 to 4 p.m., allowing visitors to explore the museum at their own pace. Knowledgeable guides will be on hand throughout the afternoon to answer questions and provide additional historical context.
Admission is FREE for Historic Columbia members and residents of Richland and Lexington counties with valid identification. Space is limited, and entry is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
