Watch hundreds of bats take flight at dusk during Bat Twilight Takeoff at Sesquicentennial State Park. The park’s bat box is home to more than 200 bats, which emerge around sunset to begin their nightly search for insects.
The evening program includes fascinating facts about the bats and an opportunity to observe their dramatic departure from the roost, with the entire group typically emerging within about 20 minutes. The experience offers a relaxing way to learn about these important nocturnal creatures and their role in the ecosystem.
Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, insect repellent, and water. Adults must accompany children ages 15 and under.
The program takes place at the main parking lot near the playground.
Pre-registration is required, with registration closing one day before the program. Admission is $5 per participant ages 6 and older; children ages 5 and under are free. Regular park admission is not included.
