"The Met Opera: Così fan tutte" at the Newberry Opera House

Experience The Metropolitan Opera’s acclaimed HD presentation of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the Newberry Opera House on October 10, 2026. Directed by Phelim McDermott, this imaginative production reimagines Mozart’s beloved comic opera in a colorful, 1950s American carnival setting, complete with a bustling roadside motel and seaside amusement park.

Set to Mozart’s unforgettable score and featuring a witty libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, Così fan tutte follows two young officers who accept a wager from the cynical Don Alfonso, who believes no couple’s fidelity can withstand temptation. Disguising themselves as strangers, the men attempt to win each other’s fiancées, leading to a series of humorous misunderstandings, unexpected emotions, and surprising revelations about love, trust, and human nature.

Blending timeless music, clever comedy, and striking mid-century-inspired visuals, this Metropolitan Opera production offers a fresh take on one of opera’s greatest comedies. With a runtime of approximately 3 hours and 35 minutes, including intermission, Così fan tutte is a delightful experience for both longtime opera enthusiasts and first-time audiences alike.
